Red Dog was an important gold mining town which flourished in the third quarter of the 19th century. The Cemetery is located about a quarter mile from the old town site, which is a County historical landmark and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The Cemetery has commanding views to the west, and some lovely headstones and ornamental iron fences.
