The Nevada Cemetery District operates 27 public cemeteries in western Nevada County–25 historic natural cemeteries and 2 modern lawn cemeteries. Eighteen of the cemeteries are open and active, while the remaining 9 historic cemeteries are closed to future interments, but are still accessible for historical purposes. The transfer of an additional historic cemetery is pending. The District sells the rights for full-body burials and cremation interments in the open and active cemeteries as local conditions allow, and offers a range of interment services and products. Residents of Nevada County are eligible for interment in the District cemeteries. Non-residents with family interred in a District cemetery, or who acquired interment rights while a resident, or who have paid or are paying property taxes in Nevada County are also eligible under certain conditions.
The District office is located at 10523 Willow Valley Road in Nevada City, California 95959. The office phone number is 530-265-3461.
