Sweetland Cemetery

Est. 1853. Currently open for burials.

This cemetery sits on the hill behind Peterson’s Corner. Although very small compared to nearby North San Juan, this mining town was noted for having the largest tail sluices.

Sweetland Cemetery is located at 10055 Cemetery Road near the town of French Corral. It was established in 1853 and is currently active. To reach the cemetery, take Highway 49 north from Nevada City and turn left on Pleasant Valley Road. Proceed for about a half a mile and then turn right on Sweetland Road. Go about a quarter of a mile, turn right on Cemetery Road, and proceed straight to the cemetery.
