North San Juan Protestant Cemetery

Est. 1850. Burials are very limited due to the space still available.

This cemetery has beautiful grounds with many very large black oak and cedar trees. It is nearly full with only about 50 full-body burial sites remaining. An interesting headstone exits just off the main path, the name reads, William Bonney. Many visitors ask if that is indeed the grave for Billy the Kid. We are fairly certain it is not, but it generates quite a bit of interest to those walking through.

The North San Juan Protestant Cemetery is located at 27994 Cemetery Alley in the town of North San Juan. It was established in 1850 and is currently open and active. To reach the cemetery, take Highway 49 north from Nevada City. When entering North San Juan, either turn right onto School Street and then left into the cemetery, or take the next right onto Cemetery Alley and proceed straight into the cemetery.
