Est. 1867. Closed to burials.
The county built the first hospital on Willow Valley Road in 1867 and began treating local residents and miners who sometimes had extreme illnesses and injuries. Many of the miners who succumbed to their injuries were known only by their names and were without family in the local area. The cemetery sits behind the old hospital. Burials here were for those who did not have the means or family to be buried elsewhere. Nearly 700 people are interred here but only one traditional headstone is in place. When they were buried a wooden marker with a number was placed on the grave. Time and vandalism have destroyed those old markers but NCD is currently restoring all of the forgotten markers.
The Nevada County Cemetery is located at 10523 Willow Valley Road in Nevada City is behind the old Nevada County Hospital
