The Nevada Cemetery District is an independent special district charged with providing respectful and cost-effective interment services appropriate for the diversity of local conditions and circumstances. It is responsible for the improvement, expansion and operation of public cemeteries in Western Nevada County, including historic cemeteries established by fraternal, pioneer, religious, social and other organizations.
The Health and Safety Code of the State of California regulates the Nevada Cemetery District. The District is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees that is appointed by the Board of Supervisors of Nevada County. The control of the grounds of all District cemeteries is vested solely in the Board of Trustees. The day-to-day operation of the District and the cemeteries is conducted by a District Manager and the Staff.
The Nevada Cemetery District is funded by a combination of property taxes, sales of interment rights, and service charges and fees.
